Trenchport — It’s being handed out like a party favor, passed around in alleyways, handed out on street corners, and slipped to the unsuspecting at public events. Its name is deceptively innocent—Candy—but law enforcement officials warn it’s anything but.

Late last week, during what should have been a family-friendly night at the city’s Founders Day Festival, Chief Marcus Dawson of the Trenchport Police Department witnessed firsthand the emergence of a dangerous new substance now making the rounds in District 1 and beyond.

“We’ve confirmed that this is a psychoactive hallucinogen with pronounced aphrodisiac effects,” Dawson stated in a report obtained by the Trenchport Tribune. “People are taking it without knowing what it is. They’re being misled. That’s what makes it dangerous—it’s disguised as something innocent.”

According to Chief Dawson’s internal incident report, at least multiple individuals—including a Trenchport police officer—unknowingly ingested the substance at the festival. Many of them later described experiencing intense, disorienting effects consistent with heavy hallucinogenic use, paired with extreme sexual stimulation.

“It messed me up bad, had me dripping!” one affected individual reportedly said during follow-up questioning. “I thought it was just candy. It wasn’t. I didn’t even know what was real.”

While the police have not yet confirmed the exact chemical composition of “Candy,” they suspect the drug is being manufactured and distributed by members of the local gang.

Chief Dawson has formally recommended the formation of a narcotics task force targeting District 2, specifically around known gang-affiliated zones, and is urging residents to exercise caution.

“This is a public safety emergency,” Dawson said. “This drug is hitting the streets fast, and the way it’s being distributed makes it particularly dangerous to teens, partygoers, and anyone who’s not paying attention.”

In one of the more disturbing developments, one person was found nude and disoriented after unknowingly consuming the drug. She later confirmed she had been given what she believed to be ordinary festival candy. Another civilian provided conflicting statements to investigators, admitting to using the drug but later refusing to disclose who had supplied it. That same civilian has since fled police custody and is now a person of interest in the ongoing investigation.

Officials are warning the public that the drug’s hypersexual and hallucinogenic effects not only impair judgment but leave users vulnerable to exploitation, assault, and manipulation. Several in the department fear it may be used as a tool for coercion and control, similar to so-called “date rape” drugs in past urban crises.

A citywide alert is expected within the next 48 hours. In the meantime, parents, educators, and festival organizers are being asked to report any suspicious candy-like substances, particularly those that appear homemade or lack commercial packaging.

🚨 If you or someone you know has information about the distribution of “Candy” in Trenchport, call the TPD tip line immediately. There is a five thousand dollar reward that leads to any arrest of any dealers of the substance. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through the Crimestoppers program. 🚨

Stay tuned for continued coverage as this investigation develops.
